Drones for fire fighting, technical aid, search and rescue
While manned helicopters used by the fire brigade need a comparatively long time to take off, drones are being transported in the emergency vehicle. Drones are ready for operation in the shortest possible time.
Drones are increasingly being used in civil defence and disaster control by fire brigades, the Technical Assistance Agency (THW) or the German Aerospace Center (DLRG) and other rescue services or Federal Office for Information Security or authorities and organisations with security tasks.
Firefighting drones are primarily used for surveying and evaluating the situation. Often firefighting UAVs with infrared cameras (FLIR) are used to search for people.
Drones with FLIR or infrared cameras can detect persons and animals as well as other heat sources such as fire spots or fire nests. Images or videos can be sent in real time to monitors, smartphones, tablets or other visualization devices. This helps to evaluate the dangerous situation and speeds up the decision making process of the emergency management. Firefighters can thus react faster and better and rescue lives. UAVs in use by the fire brigade ultimately help to prevent danger and limit damage.
In contrast to the use of a manned helicopter, a drone mission saves time and money - and in many cases drones can replace a helicopter. In this way, a drone becomes a lifesaver.
The right equipment for authorities, fire brigade, technical aid organisation, lifesaving organisations, rescue services
Equipped with the appropriate equipment, drones are used by fire brigades and other organizations. The possible applications range from search and rescue operations to fire prevention and fire observation, support in major emergencies and disasters such as floods, earthquakes and accident situations in impassable terrain or involving hazardous materials.
